DEA Claims Synthetic THC Made by a Group of Criminals is Safer Than Actual Marijuana

As the Free Thought Project previously reported, one of the manufacturers of a fentanyl drug was exposed for lobbying against marijuana, while simultaneously bribing doctors to push their dangerous opioids. Now, after the federal government granted Insys permission to make a synthetic version of cannabis, they are claiming that it’s safer and more medically valuable than actual weed. Seriously.

The DEA recently announced through the federal register that the synthetic THC made by Insys, sold under the brand name Syndros, will be listed as a schedule II drug, meaning it can now be prescribed by doctors. In the meantime, actual THC—containing the exact same properties, but able to be grown in your backyard—remains on the same scheduling list as heroin, noting that it has “no currently accepted medical use” and “a high potential for abuse.”

Insys has become notorious over the last two years after six former executives and managers were arrested on charges that they engaged in a nationwide scheme to bribe doctors to prescribe a drug containing the opioid fentanyl. Now this same group of dangerous drug peddlers is being given a partial national monopoly on the sale of legal THC, by the group who claims to protect Americans from drugs.

Along with the executives, Michael Baich, the former CEO, was also charged in an indictment filed in federal court. Even the company’s billionaire founder, John Kapoor was arrested in October for his role in the bribery scheme. He was freed on a $1 million bail after pleading not guilty.

The idea that the DEA would provide a company—who was caught bribing doctors to prescribe opioid drugs that have led to one of the largest addiction problems in the history of the world—with a pass to sell their synthetic version of a plant they continue to kidnap, cage, and kill people over, is infuriating, to say the least.

When asked about this overt conflict of interest and unscrupulous handout to Big Pharma, the DEA answered with a typical bureaucratic reply.

As VICE reported, the DEA noted in its announcement on Wednesday that it received public comments from people opposed to making synthetic THC products Schedule II while keeping marijuana Schedule I. The DEA also said that “two commenters expressed concern that pharmaceutical companies are making a profit from approved drugs containing marijuana constituents.”

“The DEA notes that FDA-approved products of oral solutions containing dronabinol [THC] have an approved medical use, whereas marijuana does not have an approved medical use and therefore remains in Schedule I,” the agency said in its response.

What makes this information so damning and hypocritical is that in September 2016, the Free Thought Project helped to expose Insys Therapeutics for paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep marijuana, a plant that has never killed anyone, illegal.

In a glaring display of hypocrisy, Insys, who makes Subsys, a sublingual fentanyl spray, claimed that marijuana is dangerous because it could hurt children. At least that was their public reasoning for shoving $500,000 towards a campaign opposing marijuana legalization in the US. Now, they are pushing the same drug!

If you want to know why there is a drug war, ask yourself, ‘who benefits from it’?

Legal pot is detrimental to the opioid crisis and reduces addiction. However, this is bad business for big pharma and their lapdogs in the DEA.

Opiate addiction, overdose, and accidental death problems might simply be avoided if, ironically enough, marijuana is made legal nationwide. This would drastically reduce the scope of the DEA’s enforcement as well as threaten the grip opioid manufacturers currently have on addiction.

As TFTP has documented on several occasions, cannabis holds the promise of helping opiate addicts kick their addiction by substituting their cravings for opiates with the non-addictive painkilling properties of marijuana. And it’s not folklore. Doctors have experimented with cannabis as a substitute for opiates with high degrees of success.

Study after study has confirmed that medical cannabis access reduces harm from opioid abuse among the population. A recent study published in the Drug and Alcohol Dependency journal found that states with legal medical cannabis experience fewer hospitalizations related to opioids.

Medical marijuana legalization was associated with 23% and 13% reductions in hospitalizations related to opioid dependence or abuse and [opioid pain reliever] OPR overdose, respectively; lagged effects were observed after policy implementation.

Researchers from the University of California analyzed hospital administrative records for the period of 1997 to 2014. The author reported:

This study demonstrated significant reductions on OPR- (opioid pain reliever) related hospitalizations associated with the implementation of medical marijuana policies. … We found reductions in OPR-related hospitalizations immediately after the year of policy implementation as well as delayed reductions in the third post-policy year.

From the outside, this entire scenario looks like a case of big pharma pushing its deadly drugs while reaping massive profits. However, if we look closer, that scenario is not only made possible by, but fostered through, pharma’s ties to the state. As people beg the state for more regulation, real free enterprise solutions, like legal weed, are being ignored, or worse, prosecuted.

Until this paradigm of government and pharmaceutical collusion and the war on drugs comes to an end, we can only predict that this epidemic of mass opioid overdoses and the war on the potential cure to get far worse.

MP SPEAKS | PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang’s three public statements in the past week bespeak of his new role as the foremost apologist and defender of Prime Minister Najib Razak, in particular to deflect attacks and criticisms on Najib’s transforming Malaysia into a global kleptocracy.

Imagine, three public statements in the past week and not a single reference to the international multi-billion dollar 1MDB money-laundering scandal and Malaysia being regarded world-wide as a global kleptocracy in the past two years.

Like Najib, Hadi does not believe that there is any 1MDB scandal. He believes that Najib is the victim of an international conspiracy to character-assassinate the prime minister of Malaysia, and he does not mind Malaysia being regarded world-wide as a global kleptocracy.

This is the PAS president in 2017, a far cry from previous PAS mursyidul ams and presidents of yesteryears like Nik Aziz Nik Mat, Fadzil Noor and Yusof Rawa – as it is conceivable to imagine them leading a national and international campaign against the 1MDB scandal and to clear or cleanse Malaysia of the infamy and ignominy of being regarded worldwide as a global kleptocracy.

But today, under the Hadi leadership, Malaysia as a global kleptocracy is acceptable to PAS, which would be anathema to Nik Aziz, Fadzil Noor and Yusof Rawa.

This is why Hadi’s PAS leadership is hand-in-glove with the Umno leadership to deflect attention, criticisms and attacks on the 1MDB scandal and Malaysia becoming a global kleptocracy.

In his latest public pronouncement in an interview with Berita Harian, Hadi claimed that PAS was instrumental in ensuring wins for DAP and PKR in the last general election as PAS’ “well-equipped machinery and grassroots support “ translated to victories for their former allies.

He said, “PAS has grassroots strength that no other party has.

“In the last general elections, many of the machineries were PAS’, that helped candidates from DAP and PKR to win.”

I am surprised that Hadi has developed such a “blind spot”.

Hadi is so hard up for his hudud law to be passed in Parliament that he dare to say that he does care to win big in the next GE. What load of crap or shit. Biggest hypocrite in Taliban's clothes, probably wants the Taliban to rule Malaysia. Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg has rebuffed the challenge for him to debate Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia over the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

"Someone challenged me to a debate, but why should I debate him? It's childish. Paloi! (stupid)" Abang Johari was quoted as saying by Utusan Borneo.

For close on a century, researchers have hypothesised that the universe contains more matter than can be directly observed, known as "dark matter." They have also posited the existence of a "dark energy" that is more powerful than gravitational attraction. These two hypotheses, it has been argued, account for the movement of stars in galaxies and for the accelerating expansion of the universe respectively. But -- according to a researcher at the University of Geneva (UNIGE), Switzerland -- these concepts may be no longer valid: the phenomena they are supposed to describe can be demonstrated without them. This research, which is published in The Astrophysical Journal, exploits a new theoretical model based on the scale invariance of the empty space, potentially solving two of astronomy's greatest mysteries.

In 1933, the Swiss astronomer Fritz Zwicky made a discovery that left the world speechless: there was, claimed Zwicky, substantially more matter in the universe than we can actually see. Astronomers called this unknown matter "dark matter," a concept that was to take on yet more importance in the 1970s, when the US astronomer Vera Rubin called on this enigmatic matter to explain the movements and speed of the stars. Scientists have subsequently devoted considerable resources to identifying dark matter -- in space, on the ground and even at CERN -- but without success. In 1998 there was a second thunderclap: a team of Australian and US astrophysicists discovered the acceleration of the expansion of the universe, earning them the Nobel Prize for physics in 2011. However, in spite of the enormous resources that have been implemented, no theory or observation has been able to define this black energy that is allegedly stronger than Newton's gravitational attraction. In short, black matter and dark energy are two mysteries that have had astronomers stumped for over 80 years and 20 years respectively.

A new model based on the scale invariance of the empty space

The way we represent the universe and its history are described by Einstein's equations of general relativity, Newton's universal gravitation and quantum mechanics. The model-consensus at present is that of a big bang followed by an expansion. "In this model, there is a starting hypothesis that hasn't been taken into account, in my opinion," says André Maeder, honorary professor in the Department of Astronomy in UNIGE's Faculty of Science. "By that I mean the scale invariance of the empty space; in other words, the empty space and its properties do not change following a dilatation or contraction." The empty space plays a primordial role in Einstein's equations as it operates in a quantity known as a "cosmological constant," and the resulting universe model depends on it. Based on this hypothesis, Maeder is now re-examining the model of the universe, pointing out that the scale invariance of the empty space is also present in the fundamental theory of electromagnetism.

Do we finally have an explanation for the expansion of the universe and the speed of the galaxies?

When Maeder carried out cosmological tests on his new model, he found that it matched the observations. He also found that the model predicts the accelerated expansion of the universe without having to factor in any particle or dark energy. In short, it appears that dark energy may not actually exist since the acceleration of the expansion is contained in the equations of the physics.

In a second stage, Maeder focused on Newton's law, a specific instance of the equations of general relativity. The law is also slightly modified when the model incorporates Maeder's new hypothesis. Indeed, it contains a very small outward acceleration term, which is particularly significant at low densities. This amended law, when applied to clusters of galaxies, leads to masses of clusters in line with that of visible matter (contrary to what Zwicky argued in 1933): this means that no dark matter is needed to explain the high speeds of the galaxies in the clusters. A second test demonstrated that this law also predicts the high speeds reached by the stars in the outer regions of the galaxies (as Rubin had observed), without having to turn to dark matter to describe them. Finally, a third test looked at the dispersion of the speeds of the stars oscillating around the plane of the Milky Way. This dispersion, which increases with the age of the relevant stars, can be explained very well using the invariant empty space hypothesis, while there was before no agreement on the origin of this effect.

Maeder's discovery paves the way for a new conception of astronomy, one that will raise questions and generate controversy. "The announcement of this model, which at last solves two of astronomy's greatest mysteries, remains true to the spirit of science: nothing can ever be taken for granted, not in terms of experience, observation or the reasoning of human beings," concluded André Maeder.

Chinese researchers at Zhejiang University are in the process of conducting a study on how Oxytocin affects gay men, according to a Wednesday report.

The two-year study is in the process of its final stages in looking into how Oxytocin, also known as the “love” or “cuddle” hormone, may influence the sexuality of gay men, reports the Shanghaiist.

The study, called “A study on the effect of oxytocin on sexual orientation in men” was officially recorded back in May. Researchers are focusing on “the feature of brain activity and social gender cognition in male homosexuals, and how oxytocin affects them,” according to the online registration portal.

The study looked at two groups of ten gay men between the ages of 18-40 years old who volunteered for the study. One group received a nasal spray dosage of Oxytocin, while the other group of ten only received a saline spray.

The study previously came under fire when it seemed that the researchers were examining a cure for homosexuality as “male homosexuality” was written in the blank for the question “target disease.”

A Massachusetts Institute of Technology Chinese researcher wrote a letter of complaint about the study, demanding to know why gay men needed to be cured of homosexuality and why heterosexuals were not included as well.

Researchers later changed it to be a “basic study.”Homosexuality is still stigmatized in China, though the country decriminalized it in 1997.

Ever since the Western corporate media began pimping the White Helmets as the “heroes of the Syrian crisis,” lavishing praise upon them, and even giving them film awards for some of the cheesiest filmmaking in the business, the alternative media has been consistently exposing the terrorist organization for being  a propaganda wing of al-Nusra Front.

Since the very beginning, Vanessa Beeley has been the tip of the spear in deconstructing the myth of the White Helmets, having traveled to Syria on multiple occasions, taking photos, conducting interviews and investigations that have revealed beyond a reasonable doubt that the White Helmets are indeed terrorists and, more specifically, aligned with al-Nusra Front. I, myself, have also traveled to Syria in October, 2017 and have seen clear evidence of the same.

After repeated videos of sectarianism, the fact that White Helmets only treat terrorists, that they literally operate out of the same complexes, faked videos, faked terrorist attacks, complicity in executions, sectarianism, and openly carrying weapons, the myth of the White Helmets has been busted time and time again.

A new investigative report, however, will go even further in busting the myth, since it has provided proof that at least 65 White Helmets members have social media accounts that espouse loyalty to terrorist groups, claim membership, or express sympathy with terrorist organizations such as ISIS, Jobhat al-Nusra, Jund al-Aqsa, Ahrar al-Sham, and/or Jaish al-Islam.

The report was conducted by the Inside Syria Media Center in coordination and cooperation with Dr. Tim Anderson, an academic expert in economics and international politics from the University of Sydney.
