A new report has exposed an ‘environment of violence’ against tribeswomen in Borneo. According to the report, released by a coalition of Malaysian human rights groups called the Penan Support Group, there have been repeated cases of rape and sexual assault against Penan women by the loggers who are destroying the tribe’s forests.
The report condemns the Malaysian government for giving lucrative logging concessions on Penan land to ‘private companies closely tied to the state government’, resulting in ‘dispossession, destruction, dislocation and impoverishment’ and an ‘environment of violence’ which leaves Penan women and girls ‘highly vulnerable’.
The Malaysian Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development has refuted the new allegations. The Chief Minister of Sarawak also denied the previous allegations of rape, saying they were ‘lies’ and an attempt at ‘sabotage’. A government investigation later confirmed that the women’s claims were true.
Officials have continued to dismiss the issue. When the BBC confronted Sarawak’s Minister for Land Development with the statement of a teenage Penan rape victim, he said, ‘They change their stories, and when they feel like it. That’s why I say the Penan are very good storytellers.’
Survival’s director Stephen Corry said today, ‘Logging has brought the Penan nothing but abuse, with rape, violence and hunger now commonplace. For the government to react by calling them ‘storytellers’, and pretending all this is ‘progress’ is appalling.’
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak is due to visit some Penan villages on July 22.
House of lead plaintiff in landmark rainforest litigation demolished by Sarawak authorities in an arbitrary law enforcement action.

SUNGAI SEKABAI / SARAWAK,EAST MALAYSIA. In a dramatic twist to one of Malaysia’s most prominent legal conflicts between native communities and the government of the East Malaysian state of Sarawak on Borneo, a Sarawak Land and Survey enforcement team, with assistance from Malaysian army personnel and the police, have yesterday demolished 25 houses of an Iban native community at Sungai Sekabai near the town of Bintulu.
According to the Sarawak Indigenous Peoples’ network, TAHABAS, the law enforcement squad demolished about 25 houses with all the natives’ belongings inside without prior notice being given to the community. Most of the occupants were left without any place to live and their belongings were also intentionally destroyed by the enforcement team, writes TAHABAS, adding that the Iban natives were in shock over what had happened to their homes.
Among the victims of the arbitrary attack on the native community’s property is headman Nor anak Nyaway who gained international recognition for having won a land rights litigation against the Sarawak authorities. In a 2001 landmark court ruling, the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak acknowledged that the Iban community under Nor had native customary rights not only over their farmland but also over primary rainforests.
The current demolition of the Iban’s homes is apparently based on an eviction order issued by a local court. Sarawak lawyer Baru Bian, the legal representative of the Iban community, said the court order was granted on technical grounds only and not on merit and that it was under appeal.
Baru, who is also Sarawak chairman of Anwar Ibrahim’s Justice party, PKR, said the authorities’ action was “unacceptable” and “inhumane”. He also commented that the authorities should not be involved at this stage as it was a private land issue between the native community and a timber company. Baru said his law office was currently preparing a new lawsuit on the matter and would ask the court for an order of injunction and for compensation being given to the natives.
The Bruno Manser Fund condemns the Sarawak authorities’ arbitrary destruction of a native village and calls on the international community to pressure Malaysia to respect the hunman rights of Sarawak’s native population.

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 — A city church in the leafy Desa Melawati suburb was set on fire at midnight as police warned angry Muslim groups not to protest a controversial ruling allowing Catholic weekly Herald to use “Allah” in its national language section.
The attack on the Metro Tabernacle A/G, an Assemblies of God church in Jalan 4/4C Desa Melawati, completely gutted its administrative office on the ground floor. There were no reported injuries in the midnight attack.
Police have yet to identify the attackers and no one has claimed responsibility for the attack which could be related to anger over the Dec 31 court ruling. The judgment has been suspended pending government appeal.
According to an eyewitness who had just finished a drink at a coffeeshop located directly across the church, three or four persons on two motorcycles stopped in front of the church.
"They proceeded to break the glass panels on the ground floor before pouring some flammable liquid and setting off a fire," said a statement issued by the church.
The church is housed in a three-storey shoplot with the office on the ground floor. Church officials have lodged a police report over the incident.
Earlier in the night, the judiciary website was defaced and later taken offline.
The Metro Tabernacle is not affiliated to the Roman Catholic Church which had challenged a 2007 order to stop using “Allah” to describe the Christian God in the Herald's Bahasa Malaysia section.
The Herald is tightly circulated among the mainly Muslim country's estimated 850,000 Catholics who worship in English, Mandarin, Tamil and Bahasa Malaysia.
The Roman Catholic Church had agreed not to object to suspend the judgment out of "national interests" as Muslim groups objected to the ruling and threatened to protest.
The groups have organised protests after Friday prayers at two mosques in Kuala Lumpur today despite police orders not to proceed.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his cousin Home Minister Datuk Hishamuddin Hussein have backed the right to protest within mosque grounds to the chagrin of many who have been previously detained at opposition gatherings.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur police chief Mohamad Sabtu Osman said it was premature to link the attack on the church to the protests over the Allah ban.
''We are still investigating,'' he told the Associated Press. He also urged Muslims not to participate in the planned protests, adding that police would be stationed at mosques to monitor the situation.
Police limit gatherings in public to five people and usually take tough action, including using tear gas and chemically-laced water from water cannons, to disperse protests.
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 – A fourth Klang Valley church, this time in Kampung Subang, was reportedly attacked with Molotov cocktail which failed to explode while police have dismissed reports that cars with Christian symbols having their windscreens smashed in the Bangsar suburb today, hours after arson attacks on three churches.
Police have sent a team to investigate the latest church attack in Kampung Subang which is linked to the controversial High Court ruling allowing “Allah” to be used by Catholic weekly Herald in its Bahasa Malaysia section that has outraged Muslim groups.
Selangor police chief DCP Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the Molotov cocktail failed to explode.
City police have also increased patrols in the middle-class Bangsar suburb after people reported cars with Christian symbols such as crucifixes and rosaries had their windscreens smashed. However, police say no cars have been found smashed.

You see, Satanists know that the Traditional Roman Catholic Church has always been the most powerful practitioner of White Magic Witchcraft in the world [Read NEWS1334 for full details], while the Masters of the Illuminati has been the most powerful practitioner of Black Magick Witchcraft in the world since their founding on May 1, 1776.
As a result, the Vatican and the Masters of the Illuminati had always been mortal enemies on the global stage. Was the world to be united under a global government controlled by the White Magic Vatican or by the Black Magick Illuminati? Vatican intrigue and subversion of governments worldwide continually clashed with similar intrigue by the Black Magic Illuminati. The conflict was the stuff of legends, the stuff of the CIA battling the KGB.
In the early 1800's, the Illuminati decided to infiltrate the Vatican from within, beginning with the infiltration of rogue priests within seminaries, graduating to control of seminaries, then moving to control of the College of Cardinals, and then finally, to control the Papacy itself. From the beginning, they calculated they might need all of 200 years to accomplish this goal. However, they knew they must control the Papacy with Black Magick, for their Christ -- the Biblical Antichrist -- could not arise unless the occult world was united under the Black banner. The words we have highlighted, above, are perfect descriptions of a practitioner of Black Magick Witchcraft. A brief explanation is in order:
Fierce Countenance -- since a Black Magick witch or wizard has voluntarily given themselves up to the Dark Side, to the Dark demonic forces of Hell, they are filled with an anger and hatred that is truly supernatural. They will physically take on a dark, brooding look. Adolf Hitler is the most infamous example in world history, and pictures of him abound showing him very dark, very brooding. Freemason Aleister Crowley is another good example.
Understanding Dark Sentences -- When any occultist reaches a certain point in the development of his or her understanding of Witchcraft, they must make a choice: if they choose to use their occult power for "good", they are said to be following the Right Hand Path, and practicing White Magic. If they choose to use their occult power for "evil", they are said to be following the Left Hand Path, and practicing Black Magick Witchcraft. A Black Magick Witch or Wizard then practices "Dark Sentences" that wreak chaos, death, and destruction. A good example of this type of Dark Sentence is a "killing curse", where a demon is called into this dimension for the express purpose of killing an enemy of the coven; police departments are well aware of this type of "Dark Sentence", and they call it Psychic Murder. Such murder is impossible to solve because no human carried out the deed; since a supernatural demon carried out the murder, no clues are left behind which would enable police to solve the crime.
Craft to Prosper in his Hand -- Witchcraft has always been referred to in a shorthand way as "The Craft". Further, all rituals are done by the witch or wizard using their hands. The movement of the hands ceremonially is crucial to the success of the ritual of whatever kind it is.
Thus, Antichrist will practice Black Magick Witchcraft. This Biblical prophecy meant that the ultimate victory would belong to the Masters of the Illuminati. Thus it was that this ultimate capture of the Vatican officially occurred on June 21, 1963, with the coronation of Pope Paul VI. Since the Illuminati revels in flashing symbolic signals to the world that only Satanists will understand, they wasted no time flashing the symbolic signal that they had finally conquered the White Magic Vatican for their cause. Pope Paul VI began to show the Satanic symbol known as the Twisted Crucifix, shown here in the hands of Pope John Paul II. Let us allow Catholic author, Piers Compton the privilege of the explanation, in his book, "The Broken Cross: Hidden Hand In the Vatican", Channel Islands, Neville Spearman, 1981:
"This Bent Crucifix is "... a sinister symbol, used by Satanists in the sixth century, that had been revived at the time of Vatican Two. This was a bent or broken cross, on which was displayed a repulsive and distorted figure of Christ, which the black magicians and sorcerers of the Middle Ages had made use of to represent the Biblical term 'Mark of the Beast'. Yet, not only Paul VI, but his successors, the two John-Pauls, carried that object and held it up to be revered by crowds, who had not the slightest idea that it stood for anti-Christ." The Twisted Cross is very well known as a symbol of the Black Magick Antichrist to Satanists throughout the world. Further, Satanists around the world know the role of the Papacy in promoting this Black Magick plan. This fact is the reason Malachi Martin showed the Twisted Crucifix on the front cover of his novel, "Windswept House"; this Twisted Crucifix is displayed prominently against the black-clad figure of the Pope in the background!
Now, let us return to the story of the official secret Black Magick ceremony to commemorate this Black Magick victory. It was held on June 29, 1963. I find it highly instructive that the specific day chosen for this black coronation was the 29th of the month, a day that adds to an '11', the number of Antichrist in both the Bible [Daniel 7:7-8] and in Satanic doctrine. After the public ceremony on June 21, the Black Magick ceremony occurred on June 28; however, it was to be a Parallel Ceremony, a ceremony which was to be held in two distinct geographical locations at the identical time. Malachi Martin explains in, "Windswept House". Listen:
"Such unobtrusive elements as the Pentagram and the black candles and the appropriate draperies could be part of the Ceremonial in Rome. But other Ruberics -- the Bowl of Bones and the Ritual Din, for example, the sacrificial animals and the victim -- would be too much. There would have to be a Parallel Enthronement. A Concelebration could be accomplished with the same effect by the Brethren in an Authorized Targeting Chapel. Provided all the participants in both locations 'targeted' every element of the Event on the Roman Chapel, then the Event in its fullness would be accomplished specifically in the target area. It would all be a matter of unanimity of hearts, identity of intention and perfect synchronization of words and actions between the Targeting Chapel and the Target Chapel. The living wills and the thinking minds of the Participants concentrated on the specific Aim of the Prince would transcend all distance." [P. 8]
In other words, the required sacrificial animal, and the human victim, that could not be ceremonially murdered in the secret ceremony in the Roman Chapel within the walls of the Vatican could be carried out at the parallel ceremony in the off-site "Authorized Targeting Chapel". Martin says this chapel was located in South Carolina, USA! [Ibid.]
However, each gesture, each word, of the ceremony in the Roman Chapel within the Vatican must be exactly, simultaneously carried out in the off-site chapel. To accomplish this feat, a telephone hookup was established. In each location, a senior priest who had carried out the ritual so any times they were perfectly familiar with the cadence of the gesture and the spoken word would begin at the same moment, and end at precisely the same moment. When the time came for the "living sacrifice" to be made, the ceremonial dagger in the Vatican would fall at precisely the same moment as the ceremonial dagger in the off-site chapel!
Through this Black Magick ceremony, the first truly Black Magick Pope in history -- Pope Paul VI -- was officially and powerfully enthroned. The Parallel Ceremony was absolutely essential, for the true merger of Satanic forces worldwide could not have otherwise occurred.
But, occur they did. The massive Satanic forces of Black and White Magic ceased their battling for supremacy, joining forces at the "Latter Time" in order to finally move the world into the Kingdom of Antichrist, the New World Order. From that moment, final decisions were made by the top leadership of the Masters of the Illuminati, not the Vatican. The top leadership shifted to the British Monarchy, to the House of Windsor [Read Antichrist and a Cup of Tea, by Tim Cohen]; the Vatican simply began to take orders instead of issue them.
This grand merger of all Satanic forces meant that the Jesuits were now working for the Illuminati, not for the Vatican. All the agents of the Jesuits, and all their organizations, now took their orders from the Illuminati. Therefore, all events that occurred on behalf of the coming New World Order after June 29, 1963, occurred because the Illuminati ordered it. The Vatican ceased to be an independent headquarters, and began marching in full sync with the House of Windsor.
The Pope was then chosen to be the top religious leader in early 1991 [Read NEWS1052 for full details]. Since the Illuminati is fully in control of the Vatican now, and since they plan on the Pope being the Religious False Prophet of Revelation 13:11-18 they have no trouble showing public obeisance to the Pope when they meet with him; thus, the Pope wears the white dress symbolic in the Zoroastrian religion of the Luciferian Sun God, while the Illuminists who meet with him dress in subordinate black [Read NEWS1608].
This fact is the one key element that the author of the Vatican Assassinssimply does not understand. Lee Harvey Oswald was a low-level CIA/KGB agent who was used mightily to foster the ridiculous one-gunman theory of the assassination of President Kennedy. Any well-laid assassination will always have a fall-guy to whom the focus of the "investigation" can turn, thus drawing the attention of the average citizen away from the real culprits.
Gerald Ford, destined to become President after Nixon resigned, was not only a Shriner Freemason as reported by Vatican Assassins, but was also a member of the Bilderberg Group, one of the major Illuminist governing bodies.
Charles Colson is identified by Vatican Assassins as a "Pro-Jesuit Protestant"! This certainly explains the terribly wrong turn that Colson's ministry took, as he veered off into horrific apostasy, cooperating with the Pope, accepting the Templeton Award and generally leading trusting Christians astray!
Vatican Assassins correctly identifies the reason President Kennedy was murdered: he was going to take America out of the planned Vietnam War. Further, Kennedy planned to drastically reduce the power and scope of the CIA and the Federal Reserve, and some have even stated their belief that he was going to reveal the total plan of the Illuminati to stage Antichrist!

The government has finally admitted that vulnerable Sarawakians have been raped by logging workers in Baram. The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development caved in to demands by NGOs and the electronic media.
Malaysian civil society has been clamouring for justice for nearly a year. As a result, the Ministry released its National Taskforce report to PKR Women’s Chief Zuraida Kamaruddin this week.
Our wealthy logging companies behave as if they are kings in rural parts of Sarawak. Rape is an expression of power over the victim as much as it is a crime of passion or lust. Therefore it is no surprise to learn that schoolgirls as young as 10 years old have been molested, abducted and raped by loggers.
These loggers carry out these crimes because they can.
They exploit, torture and humiliate Penan girls, and girls from other rural Dayak communities, because they feel invincible.
Feeling invincible
The rapists know their victims live far from towns and have little recourse to protection or justice from the police.
The rapists are aware that most teachers in the rural schools have been posted there against their will, from distant places. Most would avert their eyes if there are any signs of sexual abuse of their students. Most rural teachers do not want to rock the boat. Instead, they yearn only to complete their “tour of duty” in the ulu and return to their homes in Peninsular Malaysia, without creating any fuss.
The rapists see that the Department of Education has not provided transportation for poor rural students, even those living several days’ walk from their schools. The rapists observe that the Education Department has not pursued action against teachers who have sexually exploited children in Sarawak in the past. Why should loggers fear the Education Department, when teachers involved in sexual exploitation of minors are merely transferred to other schools?
The rapists know that many village chiefs or Tua Kampung are on the payroll of the timber and plantation companies. The rapists understand that many village chiefs have been cowed by threats from timber companies, the companies’ hired thugs, or the companies’ Big Brother, the Sarawak Government. Such village leaders will not act to protect victims of sexual exploitation.
The rapists feel secure in the knowledge that even when police reports are made, as in the cases of “Cindy” and “Bibi” described in the Ministry’s report, Bukit Aman and the Sarawak Police will sit on the reports and do nothing.
Marudi Police Chief DSP Jonathan Jalin, for example, insulted the victims of these sex crimes, when he said police “investigated” reports by asking timber camp workers and schoolteachers whether such crimes had taken place. The loggers and teachers said no, and the police looked no further.
The rapists rejoice in the lopsided coverage given by the local Sarawak press in favour of the logging companies. After all, timber conglomerates own these newspapers. The local press will publish “stories” to support logging workers, boasting how loggers have “assisted” in transporting villagers, even though the entire world knows schoolgirls are raped when they hitch rides, and companies dismantle roads and bridges after they have removed all the valuable timber they can.
The rapists congratulate one another, because the Sarawak government will continue to defend logging and plantation companies against all criticism. State luminaries such as Deputy Chief Ministers Alfred Jabu and George Chan, and Land Minister James Masing, have tried to cast doubt on reports of starvation, or rape of schoolgirls in rural areas.
Alfred Jabu and Housing Minister Abang Johari have claimed the Penan are being manipulated by foreigners. These local champions imply that the Penan cannot tell for themselves that logging companies have contributed to the hunger the Penan are suffering, and the sexual abuse visited on Penan schoolgirls.
James Masing was even quoted as saying the Penan are “good storytellers.” What does this make our State BN leaders?
Nearly a year after, a government task force report has confirmed that Penan women and children in Sarawak were raped and sexually abused by timber workers.
The report by the national task force set up in October last year also found troubling incidents of children as young as 10 years old being sexually abused by the timber companies' truck drivers when they took the children to school.
The task force reported that students were "frequently molested" by the truck drivers.
"In one account, the truck driver molested a 14-year-old's breasts on the journey to school," the report, written in Malay, said.
It said that in another incident, a girl was taken away by the truck driver after the boys were told to get down from the vehicle. Other girls in the truck managed to escape, but were unable to help that one girl get down in time.
In yet another instance, a girl was riding, together with her father, in a timber truck to go to Long Bangan to apply for her identity card. "Halfway through the journey, the passengers were told to alight, but the driver hung on to Mary (not her real name) and sped off. He then stopped the truck, dragged her to a bush by the side of the road and tried to molest her.
"Her father and the other passengers ran after the truck after realising that Mary had been apprehended, and managed to catch up with them and stop any further abuse," the report said.
An interviewee told the task force she had been raped by the timber company's truck driver on her way to a neighbouring longhouse, in addition to being raped when she was 12 outside the school compound by an unidentified man.
"She recalled that the government used to provide vehicles to take them home from school during the term breaks. However, this had been discontinued, so they had to rely on the timber companies as the only means of transportation," the report noted.
In the absence of any viable alternatives such as proper tarred roads or school buses, Penan children who live in the interior are entirely reliant on the timber companies for transport as some of their schools are located four to six hours away by truck.
The report was prepared mostly from interviews conducted by ministry officials and other representatives, including women's groups, in November 2008 when they visited the Penan community in Sarawak. The task force was set up to investigate the allegations of rape and sexual abuse of Penan women and girls in the Baram district.
Surprising release
After close to a year of not wanting to make the report public, the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry released a copy of the report to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin on 8 Sept.
"After months of unanswered calls and letters to the minister, I went to see the minister (Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil) yesterday and was informed by her staff that I could collect the report," Zuraida told The Nut Graph over the phone.
The report was subsequently made available to The Nut Graph via e-mail.
No explanation was given by the ministry as to why the report could not be made public initially. The ministry has also yet to explain why it took so long to make the report available to the public despite numerous calls to do so in the interest of public accountability.

Bigger picture
Apart from documenting the individual instances of rape and sexual abuse, the task force also found that the Penan were especially vulnerable because of their low socioeconomic status and lack of access to government and healthcare services.
The factors that cause the community's vulnerability include overdependence on timber companies for transportation and other services, poverty, and the remoteness of their villages.
The report also cited the Penan's distrust of the authorities, and their low self-esteem as a result of prejudices against them.
"All these factors — sexual violations, not having ICs, health problems, dropping out of schools — are closely related to imbalanced development. The lack of roads and public transportation causes the Penan difficulties in engaging with the outside world, including government agencies.
"In order to ensure more balanced development, the involvement of the Penan in matters that affect their lives must be increased," the report said.
The report also made several specific proposals to address sexual abuse, including raising awareness within the Penan community on personal safety, violence towards women, and sex education.
"Teachers in Penan schools would also need to be educated to be sensitive to the specific needs and difficulties faced by the community," the report said.
The task force also proposed for "trusted vehicle drivers" and a pupil management assistant to accompany the Penan children back to their villages. No specific proposals were mooted on how to make it easier for those who have been raped and sexually abused in the Penan community to report such incidents.
Despite the task force's findings, it remains to be seen whether any of the offenders will be charged and brought to justice for the sexual abuse perpetrated on the Penan women and children. Although several police reports have been made, it is unclear whether the police will be investigating the matter.
