Syed Saddiq: Ali Tinju a national disgrace
If the same remarks were made by a non-Malay to a respectable Malay leader, the person "would have been jailed immediately", PPBM committee member claims.
PETALING JAYA: Ali Tinju has been told to apologise to Bersih Chairman Maria Chin Abdullah and the police urged to immediately take action against the Gerakan Merah leader.
Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) Committee Member Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said Ali, whose real name is Mohd Ali Baharom, was a “national disgrace” to “Malaysia, Malays and Muslims.”
“Police should show no fear or favour in handling his case.
“The recording produced by the FMT news portal is clear evidence of criminal intimidation which puts the life of a fellow Malaysian at risk.
“The fact that he repetitively threatened Chin is indicative of his true intentions,” he said in a statement today.
Syed was referring to the audio recording and transcript published by FMT earlier today, disputing Ali’s claim of having been misquoted over the alleged verbal assault against Chin.
In the recording, Ali was heard saying that Chin should be careful and that she may “no longer walk on this earth.”
To this, Syed said if the same remarks were directed by a non-Malay at a respectable Malay leader, the person “would have been jailed immediately.”
“The same would apply if a non-Umno member had said the same to an Umno member.
“So, police must act before people lose faith in the rule of law.”
Gerakan Youth Chief Tan Keng Liang made the same call, telling Ali to be a man, own up and apologise for threatening Chin.
“If you have the courage to make a threat, then you have to be brave enough to accept the consequences.
“Don’t become a coward and say ‘misquoted’. It is embarrassing.
“It is better to retract the threat and apologise. Be a man and own up,” he wrote on Twitter.
On Monday, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar revealed that Ali was currently under investigation for criminal intimidation
Ali Tinju a national disgrace - TRUE so true. So now when will the police act against Ali or are waiting for permission from the elite to do so..The police should act or be a national disgrace also!!!
