Hadi accepts Dr M’s apology on Memali
KUALA TERENGGANU, May 4 — PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has accepted the apology from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the latter's harsh remark on those who died in the 1985 Memali incident, describing the deaths as “mati katak” (died in vain).
According to Hadi, he viewed the PPBM president as someone who had slipped off his tongue.
“Dr Mahathir is not well-versed on religion matters. (He) should have asked those who are knowledgeable about the subject. In fact, we (PAS) have sat down, discussed and deliberated that the victims died as martyrs.
“He (Dr Mahathir) has slipped off his tongue. I have listened to his apology and we accept that,” he told reporters at “Sembang Santai Bersama Ayoh Chik” programme in Kuala Ibai here today.
Hadi also said the issue should not be raised anymore as local Muslim scholars, including those who lived at the time of the incident, had declared that the victims died as martyrs and that their funerals were carried out accordingly. — Bernama
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has incriminated himself by endorsing those who died in the Memali incident as martyrs as the instigator of this revolt as Mahathir has accused him of. May the blood of those whom he is responsible for be upon him!
