MCA: Show proof Putrajaya did right in cancelling China-backed projects

The party’s deputy president, Wee Ka Siong, says it is only fair that Malaysians are given the facts so they can evaluate for themselves.
Wee Ka Siong says if any wrongdoing is found, MCA will be the first one to support the authorities to take stern action.
PETALING JAYA: MCA has again railed against Putrajaya’s decision to cancel three China-backed projects, demanding that the Pakatan Harapan government provide proof it was the correct choice to make.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad had yesterday announced the cancellation of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), the Multi-Product Pipeline (MPP) and the Trans Sabah Gas Pipeline (TSGP) projects.
The prime minister said these projects would be cancelled until Malaysia could afford them and added that projects which were detrimental to Malaysia’s interests won’t be green-lit.
MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong said the government should reveal the feasibility studies, cost-benefit analysis and economic impact studies for all three cancelled projects.
Putrajaya, he said, should also come clean over the termination and compensation clauses of these projects as well as back up its claims of unfair terms of payment upfront for the two pipeline projects.
“Show us proof that the contractor, which is the fourth largest company in the world, will not complete the two pipelines within the agreed three-year period,” he said in a Facebook post.
Wee, a former minister in the previous administration, was referring to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng’s revelation last month that Suria Strategic Energy Resources Sdn Bhd (SSER), a company backed by the ministry, had approved payments amounting to 87.7% of the project cost to China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau (CPPB).
Lim said the transactions by SSER were “highly suspicious” because both pipeline projects were only about 13% completed.
But Wee said it was only fair for Malaysians to be given all the facts so that they could evaluate for themselves if PH’s allegations were true and if cancelling the three projects was the right decision.
“As the amount involved is likely to be in the region of tens of billions and the allegations are serious, if a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) needs to be called, then please call for one.
“If any wrongdoing is found, MCA and I will be the first one to support the authorities to take stern action,” the Ayer Hitam MP said.
Wee said yesterday the cancellation of the projects would affect the country’s ties with Beijing and rued the economic losses and other benefits that the projects would have generated.
MCA: Show proof Putrajaya did right in cancelling China-backed projects - an idiotic question. All M'sians know the useless of the ECRL project - a rail going to Kuantan (what for - to see turtles laying eggs at night). At least first DEVELOP Kuantan and then build the ECRL As for the 2 gas pipelines - they are overpaid for little work done - THANKS to Umno/BN corrupt leaders. Stupid MCA vet. Wee  -should keep quiet. Has he lots of shares in these companies building these projects???
