PETALING JAYA: The Citizens Against Enforced Disappearances (Caged) is urging Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin to suspend current Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Fuzi Harun (pic), who was special branch head, when activists Amri Che Mat and Pastor Raymond Koh were abducted.
After the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) concluded that the police were responsible for the abduction of both activists, the NGO also wants several police officers to be suspended and questioned for their lies to the Suhakam inquiry panel.
It also called for open investigations against former IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar for allegedly lying to the nation.
"It is time to restore public confidence in the police and fulfil the expectations of the laypersons who helped the Inquiry find the truth.
"If the Home Minister does not take the above actions, we will know he lacks the courage to establish justice in our nation. He should be replaced with someone who will not be a puppet of the police," Caged said in a statement on Thursday (April 4).
It also called for the public rebuke of the police force for boycotting Suhakam panel's announcement and release of its findings on the public inquiry on Wednesday (April 3).
Caged also wants the government to table the IPCMC bill and publish a time-bound plan to execute all the actions listed by the Suhakam panel.
Caged had, in April 2017, delivered a memorandum to Suhakam, asking them to investigate the abductions of Amri, Pastor Koh, and Joshua and Ruth Hilmy.
Home Minisiter must act on abductions NOW! or RESIGN.
