Azmin riles up 10,000-strong crowd with GST

AZMIN Ali today took a swipe at Prime Minister Najib Razak for burdening the people with the goods and services tax (GST).

In a 20-minute speech at "Karnival Himpunan Rakyat Membangunkan Bangsa Memakmur Negeri" in Shah Alam today, the Selangor menteri besar countered Najib on each of the five alleged “weaknesses” of the state government that the prime minister said were causing problems for the people.

“What is it that burdens the people? Was it me who introduced the GST? Selangor that introduced GST? Who was it that introduced GST?” he said to the crowd of about 10,000 people.

At the launch of the Barisan Nasional election machinery in Hulu Selangor, Najib had said that the burden of state taxes was one of the state administration's five weakensses . 

“If we were to listen to the 8pm news, (we would hear that) a person named Najib went to Ulu Selangor and attacked me. He said the taxes are high because I do not know how to manage the state,” Azmin said.

“I want to answer him right here and now. Najib! It has been four years and the Selangor government, with the support of civil service officers, has exempted traditional village houses from paying the state taxes.”

Azmin said in the four years PH had served as Selangor government, it had given more than RM300 million back to the people through various incentives.

“I have also exempted petty traders from paying licensing fees. We also give them capital… you can ask the mayor or any businessman."

On Selangor's water crisis and rivers that were “dirty” according to Najib, Azmin said Selangor had not rationed water since he became menteri besar.

“Next he (Najib) said Selangor has dirty rivers, they have a lot of rubbish; that is why there is a dengue problem.

"Najib! Aedes mosquitoes only breed in clean water, do you understand?” he said.

“If it is true that Selangor has a dengue problem, then it means Selangor rivers are clean. He lacks even such basic knowledge. How can he be prime minister?

“Then he said I don’t know how to manage the water in the state… by attacking me through Zaini Ujang, a government servant. 

“I want to give the facts: the Selangor water reserve in 2017 was 3.8%. This year it is 5.4% and it is expected to be 11% by year-end.

“This is not fake news, these are facts – the Selangor River reserve is 100%, Sungai Tinggi Reserve 100%, Sungai Semenyih 100%, Sungai Langat 99.95%, Sungai Batu 99.63%, Sungai Labu 99.78% and Tasik Subang 99.2%.

“I want to bring the ministers and this KSU (Zaini) to see the reserves, and after they have seen them, I want to throw them in,” he said.

Azmin said the recent water disruptions in the state were due to damaged equipment at a plant managed by Syarikat Pengeluaran Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH), which was a private company.

“SPLASH is not the state government's; it is privately owned by Gamuda. Do you understand this or not, (Najib)?” – March 17, 2018.

Azmin did a good job of putting Najib in his place (Place of stupidity). All this shouting, hoo hahs all aound M'sia, dishing out goodies, promising great benefits. Attacking the water issue in Selangor - well he should plan properly what to say as SPLASH is a private entity, not controlled by Selangor govt. SPAN should be blamed instead Najib went after Selangor govt, shows his pettiness and unstatemanship. What they will do a get a VOTE.
